The Pa5X is the new flagship of the KORG Professional Arranger series with countless innovations. The newly developed sound engine and the streamlined, color-coded user interface deliver simpler, better operation and a new sonic experience that will fuel your creativity and performance!

The Pa5X contains thousands of inspiring sounds and several hundred new styles that you can call up instantly and accurately thanks to the new user interface. The control panel has been completely redesigned too, with a versatile pad matrix and a new mixer section, multi-colored LED buttons and a large tablet-quality touchscreen for intuitive control over your music—whether on stage, in the studio or at home.

Premium Quality in an Elegant Design

Both looks and durability were key when developing the Pa5X: the robust aluminum chassis features real-wood side panels for a refined appearance. All keyboard variants of the Pa5X offer an authentic feel and expressive control for any application.

The 76- and 61-key versions have lightly weighted keys, while the 88-key model provides an authentic piano touch. All keyboards include Aftertouch!

Modern, Uncluttered User Interface

At the center of the Pa5X is a large, tiltable 8" touchscreen display with a completely redesigned GUI (graphical user interface). This allows you to access every Pa5X sound and function in seconds for live and studio use.

The color coding on the display is echoed by the LEDs on the programmable buttons. This makes operating the Pa5X easier and brings color into your performance.

Powerful EDS-XP Sound Engine to Spark Inspiration

Korg's Professional Arrangers have long been the benchmark in musicality, thanks in no small part to their outstanding sound quality. The Pa5X's EDS-XP sound engine (Enhanced Definition Synthesis - Expanded) builds on technology introduced in the Pa4X but pairs it with high-end hardware and a powerful operating system. The Pa5X sounds even richer than its predecessor.

With 24 stereo oscillators and 160-voice polyphony, the Pa5X delivers lush, high-quality sounds for a wide range of musical styles. The EDS-XP engine also offers leading-edge features such as round-robin drum and percussion parts, Smooth Sound Transitions, three sound controllers and more. The Pa5X sounds are therefore highly authentic and expressive.

Real-Time Control

The Pa5X is equipped with a control section that includes 9 buttons and 9 sliders. You can assign virtually any function to these controls: mixer volume, drawbars, mute/enable microphone, bass inversion, lyric scrolling and much more.

Assignments are shown on the new strip display so you always know what each control does.

For expressive playing there are numerous performance aids and Korg's DNC (Defined Nuance Control), which lets you call up many distinctive articulations of the chosen instrument. Faders, buttons, physical and virtual controllers, the joystick and the ribbon controller are available to modulate almost any parameter. This is one reason the Pa5X sounds so authentic.

Advanced Chord Detection and Numerous Chord Sequences

The Pa5X chord detection system is one of the most advanced available. It offers an Expert Mode where virtually all jazz-piano harmonies are possible. Chord detection can be as simple or as sophisticated as you like—even single-finger chords are possible if desired!

With automatic harmony parts, a chord sequencer and pioneering chord detection, the Pa5X gives you the tools to create complete arrangements in almost any genre.

Seamless Transitions Between Sounds, Styles and Songs

The Pa5X also uses Korg's Smooth Sound Transition technology (SST) to ensure seamless transitions between timbres, styles and songs. When you select a different style element, sounds, effects and parts fade out naturally: no abrupt cutoffs or clipped effects.

Powerful Players with Crossfades

Thanks to two independent players, the Pa5X can play two styles, MIDI files or MP3 files simultaneously—in any combination (Korg XDS, Crossfade Dual Sequencer/Player). The crossfader allows real-time blending between two styles/files and even lets you prepare a song while the previous one is still playing.

The Pa5X's sound engine is sized so that both the effect processors and the polyphony rarely, if ever, get pushed to their limits.

Lyrics, chords, notation and markers can be displayed either on the large Pa5X screen or on an external monitor via HDMI. Many lyric formats are recognized automatically, and the instrument can display the notation of a MIDI song in real time as a score.

Using markers, you can jump back to marked passages with the style element buttons—immensely useful when learning new songs, rehearsing, jamming or performing live.

Create Your Own Styles and Songs

Of course you can create your own styles and record your creations as MIDI or MP3 songs. Numerous editing features let you edit every recorded event in detail. The background transposition table ensures that backing parts sound convincing in any key.

You can also record your performance with the comprehensive sequencer as MIDI songs. To share your music and vocals with others, recording all parts (including MP3 songs) in the popular MP3 format is recommended.

The SongBook: Your Musical Library

Songs and styles can be stored in the so-called "SongBook," a database whose entries can be easily synchronized with lyrics or notation on a tablet. This allows you to control the Pa5X with a "digital songbook."

Database songs can be organized into additional set lists for different occasions (tour playlists, dance sets, presentations) in a specific order. When you select a SongBook entry, all required sounds, the style, the song, the effects and even the chord sequence are loaded.

Sounds for Every Situation

Internal sounds include not only realistic acoustic pianos but also electric vintage keyboards, synth classics and novel sounds and effects for gaming, multimedia and film production. The timbres span centuries and cultures and can be expanded if needed.

The all-new drawbar organ section can be played precisely like a tonewheel organ using the sliders and buttons on the Pa5X panel. The matching effects were taken straight from the legendary KORG CX-3 combo organ.

The new drum kits use a round-robin technology so that each hit sounds different at each dynamic level. These usually subtle differences are key to naturally sounding drum parts. It is ensured that a sample (up to 32 samples per drum instrument) never plays twice in a row!

If the extensive sound library still leaves wishes, a sampler is available for additional sounds, drum kits and audio loops. New sounds can either be recorded by you or imported from supported formats (AIFF, WAV and SF2). Samples can also be edited in detail. Two highlights are fine-tuning of samples and the lightning-fast conversion of an audio loop into a percussion kit (Time-Slice).

Intuitive Mixer with Effects Galore

The Pa5X's timbres can be polished with studio effects on multiple levels: up to 10 insert, 3 master effects and 1 finalizer are available for each of the two players. For keyboard sets there are an additional 3 insert and 3 master effects.

Immediately before the Pa5X audio outputs, mastering effects are available for high-quality studio sound. These effects were developed by KORG engineers in collaboration with Waves Audio, the studio reference for professional effects.

Separate Microphone and Guitar Inputs, Each with Matching Effects

The Pa5X offers separate inputs for a microphone and a guitar. Both signals can be processed with tailored effects: vocal harmonies in Korg quality and powerful guitar effects.

The new algorithms in the Pa5X power convincing vocal processing. The result: four-part choir voicings that give the impression of being accompanied by a real vocal quartet. The new "Auto Pitch" function also produces the popular, robotic-style vocal effect.

The separate guitar input naturally has its own gain control. Guitar effects include simulations of vintage pedals and amplifiers for a thick, powerful sound. Numerous guitar presets with up to 4 insert effects and memory for custom sounds are available as a head start.

These new guitar effects let guitarists play carefree because all effect sounds and parameters are managed by the Pa5X at the push of a button.

Each SongBook entry can be assigned, among other things, a vocal and a guitar preset to enable quick changes.

MIDI, USB, HDMI, Audio In/Out & Pedal Connections

The Pa5X provides numerous audio, control and storage connections. Controllers and storage devices can be connected to the MIDI jacks or USB ports.

The HDMI port allows connection to an external monitor. For audio connections there are XLR, 1/4" and 3.5mm jacks for external keyboards, a condenser or dynamic microphone, guitars and basses, smartphones and tablets.

Via the balanced outputs, the instrument can also be connected to active speakers or a PA system. Four balanced individual line outputs allow separate routing of desired parts.

For control there are connectors for a damper pedal (including "half-pedal" models), a footswitch and a volume or expression pedal. Simply use your existing pedals or choose the right one from Korg's extensive accessory range.

Standard File Formats

The file formats .MID, .MP3 as well as .WAV, .AIFF and .SF2 for samples are supported by nearly all instruments and external players and allow easy data exchange.

The MIDI and USB ports are intended for connecting external storage, computers, smartphones, tablets and control units. The HDMI port supports current monitors and video systems, which is invaluable for live use of the Pa5X.
