Korg Nautilus - In The Footsteps Of The Titans. All In One Instrument!

Unlimited possibilities for musical expression and absolutely simple operation—that's what the new KORG NAUTILUS stands for. In addition to the nine familiar and now further developed KORG sound engines, which of course derive from KRONOS technology, the Nautilus combines the best and newest sounds available on the market with a completely new operating concept.
The wide-ranging palette of sounds and effects and the extensive technical possibilities make the Nautilus unique in the world of music workstations alongside its stylish and elegant design. In addition to a polyphonic arpeggiator, traditional sampling and audio recording functions and many other refinements, the Nautilus is technically state of the art.
The very simple and efficient design of the instrument houses the latest generation of processors, ensuring that the contemporary demands of musicians and producers in the studio and on stage can be met. This consistent technological advancement has produced this attractive and high-quality synthesizer: the KORG NAUTILUS.
Nine Different Sound Engines For Maximum Expressivity
The NAUTILUS offers nine distinct sound engines with astonishingly realistic grand piano, electric piano, organ and many other timbres. The upgraded SGX-2 grand piano engine shines with subtle, responsive piano nuances. In addition, the NAUTILUS provides far more piano sounds than any of its predecessors.
To sound absolutely realistic, the new pianos offer 12 different dynamics layers (velocity layers), string resonance and many additional details. The EP-1 engine delivers comparable flexibility but focuses on electric piano sounds of all kinds.
The CX-3 engine—the heart of our classic CX-3 organ from past times—provides the drawbar-organ sounds. Joining it are MOD-7 VPM/FM synthesis, PolysixEX and MS-20EX for high-quality analog modeling, and the STR-1 for physical-modeling applications.
Each of the nine sound engines has its own character and therefore supplies suitable tones for every musical taste. Combining them in Program or Combination mode yields a refreshingly diverse sonic palette.
Hot New Sounds Divided Into Three Main Categories
The starting point for the sounds included in the NAUTILUS was the idea that Korg wanted to break away from preconceived notions about which sounds a conventional music workstation should contain. Instead, the boundaries in sampling and programming were expanded, because every program had to satisfy at least one of the following demands:
"Unique" Sounds: The NAUTILUS contains striking sounds, some based on phrase loops, prepared pianos, household percussion and more. Numerous instruments known only in certain cultures require special playing techniques that you don't even need to simulate on the NAUTILUS: factory phrases are already available. These phrases can be integrated into songs quickly and highly effectively.
Many NAUTILUS sounds were sampled for the first time in history: timbres based on pianos prepared with all sorts of objects, "household percussion" using anything that isn't bolted down but somehow sounds groovy. These fresh sounds give your songs a new flair and are also suitable for film and TV music.
"Current" Sounds: Additionally, the NAUTILUS offers sounds ready-made for today's popular music genres, including synthesizers, drum kits and many other sound effects. In the synth area, EDM, electro and chiptune stand out.
Furthermore, the NAUTILUS contains over 50 drum kits with sounds that definitely don't sound like yesterday or the day before. The sound effects include drum sounds with dance accompaniment for beat creation that can be used straight away. The Nautilus is not only up-to-date but ahead of its time.
Standard Sounds: Of course this workstation also includes bread-and-butter sounds like grand piano, piano, electric piano, guitar, bass and much more. For the new grand piano sound we also sampled studio acoustics, the level of which can be effectively dosed relative to the piano sound itself.
A new electric piano model with a wonderfully solid sound is ideal for funk music. Also look forward to numerous phrases with typical guitar and bass parts so keyboard players can play "proper" guitar and bass parts.

The DYNAMICS Control For Unlimited Expressivity
The DYNAMICS control lets you change the keyboard's touch behavior—whether brilliant and wide or rather restrained and narrow—instantly. Real-time changes to these settings become a new expressive tool you can use quickly and simply on stage and in the studio. It can go so far that the chosen base sound is barely recognizable. First find the setting ideal for your playing, then experiment with the creative possibilities you find on the NAUTILUS.
When you activate the DYNAMICS control and turn it left, the response to your touch becomes more nuanced, leading to an expanded range. This allows you to play even subtler and more expressive piano solos and accompaniments where dynamics naturally play the leading role. Turning the control to the right reduces the dynamic range, resulting in a more powerful base sound. That's especially useful in a band or ensemble where you don't want to get lost in the mix.
Real-Time Controls For Fast And Detailed Sound Editing
The six real-time controls on the left side of the control panel allow flexible real-time manipulation of sounds in Program and Combi modes. Each control can be assigned desired sound aspects: filter frequency, effect amount, note length, tempo and swing of the arpeggiator or the drum track, snare type and much more.
In Combi mode, timbres can be linked so that convenient balance changes are possible with these controls. You can also push the real-time rotary controls down by simply pressing them to lock them and prevent accidental parameter changes. Of course you can lock only those controls you rarely need if desired.

New And Intuitive Operating Concept
Despite the many possible settings, the NAUTILUS has received a completely new and very tidy user interface. An elegant and intuitive operating concept helps every user keep an effortless overview. The menu navigation on the display shows the path to any desired setting without getting lost in the densely populated control area.
With the MODE button on the right side of the control panel you reach a display that provides all of the instrument's modes (Program, Combi, Set-List, Sampling, Sequence and Global). Each mode presents the different parameters across several tabs at the bottom of the display, while the PAGE button allows further detailed edits of the selected mode.
Thanks to the new operating concept, the procedures are consistent everywhere. The user-friendly navigation of the NAUTILUS also means you can return to the starting point—the mode selection—at any time with the MODE button. There's even a Dark Mode in which the display contains predominantly black areas—your eyes will thank you.
Six Quick Access buttons on the right side of the panel can be assigned to preferred shortcuts to keep paths to a menu item or function short. There are four suggested default assignments to choose from.
If you still want custom shortcuts to different menu pages or functions, you can program up to four user assignments. Functions like recording or the sequencer transport buttons can be configured here alongside different mode areas, for example. That way you always have the functions you use most "at hand". An absolutely brilliant operating concept.
Arpeggiator And Drum Track Function
There are 4 "scenes" with arpeggio patterns and drum track sets that fit perfectly to the factory sound in Program and Combi modes. Such scene changes can be used creatively, ease improvisation and expand your horizons when writing new songs inspired by the currently selected sound.

Color TouchView Display
The control center of the NAUTILUS is a 7" (800 x 480 pixels), color WVGA TouchView display. Thanks to the TouchView display, sounds or other parameters can be selected simply by tapping and values adjusted with drag gestures with surprising precision. Interactive instrument and panel graphics invite you, for example, to lift/lower a grand lid or to plug patch cables into a semi-modular synthesizer model. The TouchView display also offers a practical search function to find (and preview) specific sounds.
Set List Function For Flexible Live Use
The NAUTILUS prepares on request all the resources you need for complex song structures or an entire concert—the exact purpose of the Set-List function. In Set-List mode the TouchView display shows up to 16 color-coded buttons that you simply tap to select the required sound, the appropriate Combination or a MIDI or audio recording. No matter which operating mode you're in, the desired setup is loaded with a single tap.
The colors of the individual buttons in the set list can be freely chosen, which is practical for live use to help recognize different memory slots more easily. After all, things have to happen lightning-fast on stage. The Set List mode even includes a graphic 9-band EQ so you can match the overall output to the acoustic characteristics of the venue.

Open Sampling System
KORG's Open Sampling System allows straightforward sampling of external audio sources, whether you're in Program, Combination or Sequencer mode. In Open Sampling mode you can even sample signals played by the NAUTILUS itself. The User Sample Bank, which is part of the EXs sample library, allows loading and playing user samples—an ability that can be used to the full thanks to the huge SSD capacity.
Samples in all common formats (AIFF, WAV, SoundFont 2.0 and AKAI S1000/3000) can be loaded from a USB storage device. There's even the option to connect the NAUTILUS to a computer network via a USB-Ethernet adapter to dramatically speed up data exchange between computer and instrument. Instruments and samples prepared on the computer can thus be integrated into the NAUTILUS system in no time.

New 16-Track MIDI Sequencer And 16-Track Audio Recorder
The NAUTILUS includes a well-equipped recording section with 16 MIDI and 16 audio tracks. This lets you capture spontaneous ideas and also realize high-quality productions. The MIDI section is not only suitable for capturing new song ideas but also for spicing up your arrangements with drum-track phrases and RPPR phrases (Realtime Pattern Play/Recording).
The audio section operates at either 16- or 24-bit resolution at 48 kHz and stores all data without any compression. You can play along with already recorded parts, sample anything the NAUTILUS is outputting simultaneously and save it as a WAV file or reintegrate it into a song. A mixer is available as well as extensive automation. Editing individual audio parts is, of course, very convenient.

16 Internal Effect Processors
The NAUTILUS includes 16 effect processors to give your sounds and productions their final polish. The 12 insert effects can be distributed across the timbres of a Combination or the tracks of a song, or they can be chained in series. In addition there are 2 master effect buses accessed via Bus Send 1 and 2, plus 2 total effects for final refinement at the end of the chain.
For each part of a timbre, each MIDI sequencer track and each audio track there is a separate 3-band EQ. That makes it easy to perfectly tailor everything in the NAUTILUS.
USB-MIDI Port For Connecting MIDI Controllers
You can connect any commercially available USB-MIDI controller to the NAUTILUS. With a KORG USB-MIDI controller like the nanoPAD, nanoPAD2 or the padKONTROL (with pads) you can play drum parts.
Smooth Sound Transition - Prevents Dropouts When Changing Sounds (Mode Independent)
When selecting a sound for the next song and when switching from Program to Combi mode (and vice versa), any notes that are still ringing are not abruptly cut off but fade away naturally, whether it's the actual tone or only the reverb tail. Sudden cutoffs of tones are a thing of the past.

88-Key Model With RH3 Hammer Action, 73- And 61-Key Models With Lightly Weighted Keyboards
The keyboard of the 88-key NAUTILUS model features KORG's best four-stage RH3 graded hammer action. The Japan-made keyboard offers higher key resistance in the bass than in the treble. The 61- and 73-key variants both feature a high-quality lightly weighted keyboard that makes performing organ sounds with lots of glissandi absolutely easy.
While the 88-key model is fitted with elegant wooden side panels, the 73- and 61-key models have a completely new design with impressive curves that seem to rise from the depth of the instrument and clearly recall the famous NAUTILUS ancestors: the submarine named Nautilus and the giant squid. That makes the NAUTILUS a real eye-catcher on any stage—a genuine visual statement.
Free Music Software Bundle
The NAUTILUS ships with several free software packages. These include iZotope's "Ozone Elements" for audio mastering, "Skoove" the learning software for keyboard instruments, "Reason Lite" a DAW for your studio as well as software synthesizers from KORG and other brands. This lets you be carefree and endlessly creative with this instrument to captivate an ever-growing audience.
