Arturia presents the KeyStep mk2, successor to the hugely popular KeyStep. This compact, expressive controller and sequencer combines intuitive performance, extensive sequencing features, and versatile hardware and software connectivity in a portable device. It sparks new ideas, controls synthesizer setups and modular systems, and integrates seamlessly with any DAW—a versatile tool for creative music production.

The KeyStep mk2 builds on its predecessor’s success with numerous new features: an OLED display with push encoder for easy navigation, an expanded polyphonic step sequencer with pattern chaining, a 16-mode arpeggiator, the new Mutate function for creative variations, and two capacitive touch strips for pitch and modulation. Four CV/Gate outputs, including the new Mod 2 output, expand the possibilities for modular setups. USB-C, MIDI DIN, a pedal input, and a compact, low-profile design complete this upgrade for stage and studio.

Idea machine

The KeyStep mk2 is as much an idea machine as it is a controller. Its polyphonic step sequencer, 16-mode arpeggiator, pattern chaining, and creative tools such as "Mutate All" work together seamlessly. Create a riff with the arpeggiator, turn it into a sequence, and then transform it. With "Mutate," you can instantly audition new variations, change octaves, adjust note lengths, add rests, overdub extra notes, or record bend and wheel automation—ideas evolve in real time.

Playability

The KeyStep mk2 features a 32-note Slimkey keyboard with velocity sensitivity and aftertouch, providing expressive control in a compact space. Pitch and modulation strips offer intuitive real-time control, while built-in chord and scale modes make it easy to explore new musical phrases.
