Fender AV II 61 STRAT RW FRD American Vintage II 1961 Stratocaster in Fiesta Red!
The American Vintage II series brings Fender's icons from the '50s, '60s and '70s back. And when Fender says "vintage," they don't just mean the look. They actually build the instruments exactly to the specifications of the original models that have inspired musicians across genres for generations.
The Fender American Vintage II series not only mirrors the historic designs that shaped music history visually. Many period-correct details have been precisely reproduced: bodies, necks and hardware, premium finishes and pickups that are carefully voiced to match the tone of the original model year. Thanks to traditional Fender craftsmanship, each instrument embodies the authentic character and sound of the respective original.
The 1961 Stratocaster
In the late '50s and early '60s Fender instruments steadily grew in popularity. Although Fender already offered several models at the time, the Stratocaster was the queen. By 1961 its design had been refined. It received a new Fiesta Red with a livelier red and wider black borders, plus a three-ply pickguard to accentuate the famous Strat curves.
The American Vintage II 1961 Stratocaster delivers the tone and feel of the original with its premium alder body, three Pure Vintage '61 Stratocaster pickups and maple neck in a "Medium C" profile with a slab rosewood fingerboard at a 7.25" radius. Other details: historically correct synchronized tremolo with cold-rolled steel block and bent steel saddles, "Fender Deluxe" single-line tuners, three-ply pickguard.
Gloss Nitrocellulose Finish
Nitrocellulose lacquer was used on Fender guitars and basses in the '50s and '60s. It's an extremely lightweight premium finish that doesn't impede the instrument's natural resonance, but rather supports it.
Alder Body
Alder has beautiful grain and develops a very musical resonance. The wood offers a balanced tone with strong mids and a solid bass range.
Rosewood Slab Fingerboard with 7.25" Radius
The 7.25" radius fingerboard provides a comfortable, "typical vintage" playing feel. Vintage Tall frets make precise bending easier.
1961 C-Profile Neck
Vintage neck profiles can vary significantly because Fender developed several variations over the decades. Each instrument in the American Vintage II series is fitted with the exact neck profile of the original model.
Pure Vintage '61 Stratocaster Pickups
The Pure Vintage pickups are precisely voiced for the sound and output of the original model year. Construction and materials are identical to the pickups from Fender's golden years; for example they use cloth-covered wire, vulcanized fiber bobbins and Alnico magnets.
