Please note: tuning pegs are tapered; measure the peg not at the top square end but where the tuning peg enters the instrument (approximately mid-length).

The matching tuning keys and tuning hammers are also tapered inside, with the 4 inner walls scooped out in the middle, which explains the seemingly confusing measurements. For example, the 4.2 mm size is measured at the outermost end without considering the inner scoops. Naturally, the bottom opening of the tuning key/tuning hammer is wider than the middle section.
